Öyvind Fahlström: Are You Happy?

Active in the United States during the politically charged 1960s and ’70s, Öyvind Fahlström (1928–1976) created a body of work that both invites audience participation and supplies biting political commentary, reflecting his understanding of art as “a fusion of ‘pleasure’ and ‘insight.’” This exhibition explores the artist’s career through a range of deceptively playful multimedia works—many assuming the form of games or cartoons—that push visitors to consider their own role in politics and society.
