A Different Beauty: Japanese Ceramic Masterworks

While Europe celebrated flawless porcelain, Japan developed its own ceramic aesthetic of rough surfaces, asymmetrical forms and the unpredictable marks of the kiln. The exhibition focuses on three centres of ceramic production in Japan today, Bizen, Hagi and Shigaraki, and the families of master potters who carry these traditions forward, with works from the collection of Heinz Slunecko.
