Ralph Coburn (American, 1923 – 2018) was a Minneapolis-born painter who spent most of his childhood and young adult years in Miami Beach. The city’s Art Deco aesthetics and architecture inspired Coburn’s artistic career. Throughout his practice, Coburn drew inspiration from his physical surroundings — abstracting, compressing, and distilling landscapes into flat, color-blocked planes. The exhibition’s title, Land, Sea, Sky, references the trisected artworks inspired by the shorelines, oceans, and horizons of Coburn’s travels between South Florida, Boston, New York, and Paris.
