Mary Pratt & Jack Chambers: The Lives of Others

Renowned for their photorealistic paintings, Jack Chambers (1931–78) and Mary Pratt (1935–2018) are essential Canadian artists. Their beloved paintings of everyday life—from kitchen tables to suburban streetscapes—freeze domestic moments into sensuous, visceral paintings that capture the essence of human experience. By glimpsing the world “on pause”, both artists use extraordinary painting methods to explore their fascination with ordinary images, and a belief that life and death intertwine in the tensions between shadow and light.
